Judge Ty Hands (featured panelist at the upcoming conference on Jan. 18, 2019) was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English, magna cum laude, from Winston-Salem State University and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Judge Hands clerked on the North Carolina Supreme Court and Nevada Supreme Court. Following her clerkships, Judge Hands practiced complex commercial litigation here in Charlottte for a large firm before building a District Court practice from the ground up.
Judge Hands has served Mecklenburg County on the bench since her appointment by the Governor in 2009. Currently, She primarily presides over juvenile, cases and also presides over our F.I.R.S.T. court.
Judge Hands speaks fluent Spanish (as do her children) and is active in various non-profit and community organizations. Judge Hands has earned numerous awards and honors over the years including Charlotte’s 50 most Influential Women and Winston-Salem State’s 40 under 40, but if you ask her, she would say that her greatest honor, by far, is being a Mother. She is married to David W. Hands of Hands Law Office, PLLC and their pride and joy are their two sons, David Jr. and Devin – ages nine and six.
