Chemical Addictions
Fortunately, chemical addictions are treatable. Alcoholism, for example, may readily be arrested and its ill effects completely alleviated, through abstinence from mood altering substances. If you, or someone you know, have a substance addiction, the North Carolina Lawyer Assistance Program can help. The Lawyer Assistance Program predecessor, the PALS Program, was formed in 1979 to help chemically addicted lawyers in the state of North Carolina and has helped many hundreds of lawyers over more than two decades. The Lawyer Assistance Program is authorized to receive in confidence information from any source concerning a lawyer thought to have a substance abuse problem. The Lawyer Assistance Program, through volunteers on its PALS Committee, reaches out to lawyers who may be suffering from addiction and offers help. By providing guidance and support, the Lawyer Assistance Program assists lawyers in dealing with a potentially fatal condition so that through recovery they may return to happy and productive lives.
